A Message From the Coach

Dear Players and Parents,

Welcome to Hazen Girls Soccer 2011.  Where the heck did the last two years go?   Both were filled with excitement and fun.  The 2009 and 2010 teams’ results were off the charts in comparison to the last 20 years of Hazen Girls Soccer.  2011 is shaping up as a season of higher expectations, continual improvement and more success.

A big part of Hazen Girls Soccer is the word “program”.  I use this word liberally in describing who and what we are. To me, a program includes coaches, players, parents, the booster club, a supportive school staff, and district involvement working together to provide a first class operation we will all be proud to represent.  That framework started in 2009, became whole in 2010, and now is ready to be carried on successfully.

The handbook is here to give you an idea of how we go about building the teams and our expectations of the players.  Along with that, I hope you’ll see that we are an open, positive, and competitively focused group working towards being one of the top high school soccer programs on and off the field.

Our goal is to be an athletic program that provides student athletes interested in soccer a chance to practice and develop their academic, life and soccer skills.  Within that we want all our players and parents to feel welcome and a part of our team.  Like everything else in school activities and life, from time to time things are going to change.  Hopefully, we can communicate often and freely.

We have a very active, creative, and supportive Hazen Girls Soccer Booster Club.  Many in our parent group actively participate in our program with their attendance, ideas and feedback.  The booster club has many volunteer opportunities ranging from academics to scholarship to fundraising should you be inclined to help out.  For more information, contact any of the folks listed under the contacts page on this site.

I look forward to a new year of soccer success for our players and their families.

Best regards,

Ken Matthews
